I would love to be able to get one of these systems at some point. Currently I don’t need anymore than 15k, and eventually when things are expanded I don’t think I would need anything bigger than the 42k.

Interested in the Bugout system - I need something to power my Dad's needs if the power goes out - for all the stuff that keeps him alive. The VA doesn't provide backup power for his gear and finding something that isn't backdoored to self destructive with a China killswitch is proving to be difficult to locate - at reasonable prices. I'd much rather buy a prebuilt unit with a warranty, and I have thought about just building my own, but even then locating pieces without backdoored components with killswitches is difficult.

How many input volts and watts of solar can the bugout handle?

The Grid Down Bugout has a maximum solar input of 600W (24–60V MPPT via Anderson connector).

Key Specs for the Base 1.61 kWh Bugout Unit
• Solar/DC Charge Capacity: 600W (24V @ 25A max) griddown.com
• Solar Input Port: 1x Anderson-compatible (24V @ 25A)
• Min. solar charge time (to full, assuming ideal conditions): ~2h 35m at max input
• Battery: LiFePO4, 1,612 Wh, 3,500+ cycles
• Inverter: 3,000W continuous / 6,000W surge
• Other inputs: AC wall charging (up to ~1,500W+ implied for the 2h35m time)

We also sell 100W portable 12V or 24V panels ($239–299 each) that pair directly with it.

Practical Recommendations
• For solid daily recharge in a bugout: Aim for 200–400W of panels. This accounts for real-world losses (angle, heat, clouds, wiring — typically 60–80% efficiency). In 4–5 peak sun hours, 300W rated panels can deliver ~700–1,000+ Wh/day.
• Maxed out: You can connect up to 600W total (e.g., six 100W panels or a mix with their rigid options like 410–425W panels).
• Larger Bugout models (4.29 kWh or 6.97 kWh with expansion) likely share similar or higher input limits — check the specific bundle.

This setup is EMP-protected (with EMP Shield protection) and designed for grid-down portability.

Does it come with one of those fancy grid down t-shirts so he can wear it while watching old war movies - or is there a merch section on the website too?

In fact, for anyone reading, we are happy to send you a Shirt if you buy from Grid Down as long as you came from Freestading!

Always promote the Brands doing it Right(eous).

I'll talk it over with him and see if he wants to pull the trigger on that now, or wait until the power goes out and he's kicking himself in the "I'm not able to breathe!!!"
