📌 How to Tag (Mention) Someone in a Post

Tagging is the easiest way to get someone’s attention on Freesteading.com. When you tag a member, they get an instant notification and the tag turns into a clickable link to their profile.

✅ How to Tag Someone – Super Simple Steps:

  1. While writing a post or reply, type the @ symbol followed immediately by the person’s username.Example: @OffGridAndrew
  2. As soon as you type the @ and start the username, a small pop-up menu will appear with matching members.
  3. Click on the correct person (or keep typing until the name is complete). The name will turn blue and become a link.
  4. Post your reply — the tagged person will receive a notification bell icon in the top right of the site.

💡 Quick Examples:

  • @TAGAND BEE → tags the user TAG AND BEE
  • @HaniduAcres → tags Hanidu Acres
  • You can tag multiple people in the same post:@OffGridAndrew @TAGAND BEE – both will be notified.

Important Tips:

  • Usernames are case-insensitive — @offgridandrew works the same as @OffGridAndrew.
  • You can tag someone even if they haven’t posted in the thread yet (as long as they are a registered member).
  • Tagging is the polite way to ask a specific person a question or let them know you replied to them.
  • Do not overuse tags — tagging 10+ people in one post can feel like spam.
