A healthy, friendly, and welcoming community depends on every member understanding and following a few simple guidelines. This section explains the most important rules, good posting habits, and how to report issues if something isn’t right.


Community Rules: Freesteading Community has a clear set of rules that apply to every area of the forum. You can find the full official rules pinned in the Announcements section or linked in the footer of the site. The main principles are:

• Be respectful and kind to other members at all times.
• No hate speech, personal attacks, discrimination, or harassment.
• No spam, advertising, or excessive self-promotion without permission.
• Keep content safe for work (no explicit, illegal, or highly offensive material).
• Respect everyone’s privacy — do not share private conversations or personal information.
• Stay on topic in each forum section.

These rules exist so that Freesteading Community remains a positive and safe place for everyone to learn, share, and connect.


Posting Etiquette – Best Practices Good etiquette helps conversations flow better and makes the forum more enjoyable for all members. Here are some helpful tips:

• Use clear titles — Make your thread title descriptive so people immediately understand what it’s about.
• Be friendly and constructive — Even if you disagree with someone, keep your tone polite and focus on ideas rather than attacking the person.
• Avoid one-word or very short replies — Try to add value when you reply (e.g. share your experience, ask a follow-up question, or give helpful feedback).
• Don’t spam — Avoid posting the same message in multiple places or creating too many threads in a short time.
• Use proper formatting — Break up long posts with paragraphs, bullet points, or headings so they’re easier to read.
• Credit others — If you’re sharing someone else’s photo, guide, or idea, give them credit.
• Search first — Before creating a new thread, use the search function to see if the topic already exists.
• Be patient — Not everyone is online at the same time. Give people time to reply.

Following these simple habits helps build a strong, supportive, and knowledgeable community.


How to Report Content: If you see a post or thread that breaks the rules, you can (and should) report it.

Here’s how:

1. Go to the post you want to report.
2. Click the three dots ⋮ menu (usually at the top right of the post).
3. Select “Report”.
4. Choose the reason that best matches the issue.
5. Write a short, clear explanation of why you’re reporting it.
6. Click Submit.

All reports are reviewed by moderators. You do not need to argue with the person — just report and let the moderation team handle it.


What happens after you report? Moderators check every report. Depending on the situation, they may edit the post, move the thread, warn the member, or remove the content. You will usually not receive a personal reply unless more information is needed.
