    Good looking rabbits!

We are looking in to satin rabbit, for meat and fur.

    Any experiences with this breed?

It was a long journey with a lot of different Bresse, the German ones that are related from the France but become totally different. You can say they have become German Bresse, the American would love them because they are so big and heavy. And the Dutch ones that should have bin the France, but a totall failure.

To be honest we gave up on the Bresse, but than a France breeder contacted us for Jersey Giant and other breeds. So we helped each other out and exchanged different breeds and lines.

We have different lines from the breed and AOC, also Barbesieux.

Poule de Bresse is a protected name, most likely you can find them under a different name like American Bresse in the USA.

We have had some but they were just not the real one, after years we have gotten some from France. And o boy what a difference, no comparison with all the others.

A rooster from our neighbors is crowing all day long, if he was ours would not be crowing at all.

The ones that do, will make a good meal, no breeding with them.

Ours crow only early in the morning, when still inside in there coop. But out here there is no hiding, it is what it is.

All you can do is to follow the hatching program as good as possible, so that the temperature and moisture are right. And keep closed at lockdown, let the chicks hatch do not open up to peek. And do not take the chicks out to early, let them rest and dry up. Start the time from the first one that hatch, so you know how long the other ones still have to hatch.

We do not help them to hatch, if they do not make it they are to weak. But we do control the temp, moisture and time as perfect as we can.

We are hatching a few eggs each year, and saved years towards professional incubators like MS and Hemel. Glad we went that route, and now the incubators can do their job for a few years.

To be honest I personally try not to judge at all, because that is not up to me and I am glad abou That.

I just do everything Possible and let my husband and so all others be themselves and let them do there things.

After reading al your stories, I pray that we will be able to help each other. Freesteading is a good way to get and stay in contact.

Thank you for sharing, it was nice to read.

Yes it sure is crazy, but for “some” people also man and husband the world is just fine and life is good. Sticking your head in the sand and hiding it out, is a lot easier than grabbing the bull at the horns a give a hack off a fight. Why work and prepare, if they come for the rescue.

I love my husband, but I wish we could work more together as a team. He does not like gardening, take care of the animals and sure not butchering.

So I do all that work alone, it is what it is.

Used to be the crazy chicken lady, but I will do all I can and prepare.

  • A couple of years ago, We have traded a couple of Jersey Giant chickens for a bucket of honey. We were all pleased and happy with the trad, so guess it was a good trade.

Please no rainbow, unicorn or such, maybe that is just me but please no.

  • Have Jersey Giant, Barbezieux & Poule de Bresse chicken and a new imker with his bees is coming. So we can give honey again to Kindergarten and school.
