I do both burial in the new garden areas being established for next year (grocery row basically, even though we have been doing it for 7 years!) OR get a couple 25gal barrels (or whatever size works for you) and put ALL the innards/heads in the barrel for a year (this will not smell nice) and keep adding through the year. Keep it from spilling!!! Next year it is fish fertilizer. use the other barrel that year as the collection barrel. I like the bigger barrels because the bung is big enough to accept the heads except catfish which have to get macheted to fit.

Commercial fish fertilizer they add sulfuric acid. I don’t. Its not as liquid, some bones remain. I would think a strong acid might help.

In general, the more things a.substance passes through, the higher chance it will be metabolized. Its one of those things that soil health will do. Obviously not heavy metals but almost any organic compound is food for something.

I grow stropharia on wood chips and I’m sure they have been sprayed at some point. Its utility company chips! I eat the mushrooms and don’t think twice.

The more different the organism is to you, the more likely it will either pass through you without absorption or have been metabolized before. Remember the larvae have a microbiome as well! Its passing through more than one enzyme system. My 0.02
