Our land is raw land so we’re in an RV. First thing we set up was a place to park/access.
Water was IBC totes we filled up the road until rain systems could be set up.
Compost toilets were set up next with the requisite compost station.
Generator was set up to charge the RV battery as needed until the solar panels could be set up.
Grey water is redirected toward future forage tree area as needed.
Garbage is a trip to the county landfill (free to county residents).
We established internet via a mobile puck and tethering with our phones. Check area coverage maps and test before you sign contracts.
If you have kids, look into homeschooling regulations or online school options.
What are your necessary “utilities”? What’s available? What do you need to do for yourself? What do you WANT to do for yourself?

That is really awesome. I’ll have to get one of these once I get my outdoor kitchen set up. Thanks letting me know they exist!

Have you looked at a Steven Harris battery bank kept in your truck box? Here’s an example: https://permies.com/t/32071/Mobile-battery-bank-vehicle
I don’t see why you couldn’t add a couple solar panels to the kit.

I’m keeping it simple. My kids are 6 hours away and my space is very limited. No room for decorations here and the kids know where the decorations are if they want them. I’m getting them things that they need on a regular basis and just spending time with them.
My husband doesn’t celebrate Christmas since his son died and we all respect that. I’ve already been blessed with love and the wealth that really counts so I have zero expectations but hope for fun with the kids.

I keep two lists of tasks. One for crappy weather days and one for nice weather. The nice weather list usually gets priority because I can do the other list anytime.
Like today is rainy so I’ll be working on indoor tasks like cleaning and insulation installation.

I will second Will Prowse and raise David Poz at https://www.youtube.com/@DavidPozEnergy. We’ve learned a lot from both.

That is pretty darn cool.

We’re about to start a big project cutting up fallen trees. All chainsaw tips will be appreciated.

Get a fence tester that has a fault finder. It can save you miles of walking looking for a short.

Here’s the one I have.

The fellow that posted the videos put a tomato plant in his and I’m like, you better put that in a sturdy cage or it’s gonna tip over. We’re off grid at the moment so I’ll have to wait until I have enough battery storage to do any long prints, or get someone else to print it for me.

You have an exciting road ahead of you with many challenges that will serve to make you stronger and more resilient. There are many willing teachers here and on the T elegram and MeWe platforms as well. Reach out on any subject you are currently working on and someone will steer you in the right direction.
