🚨 Attention Community Members 🚨
Nationwide cell phone outage impacting AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. In times like these, staying connected is crucial. If you’re affected and have access to Wi-Fi, here’s how you can enable Wi-Fi calling:
For iPhone users:
1. Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling.
2. Remember to enter or confirm your address for emergency services.
For Android users:
1. Open the Phone app.
2. Tap More > Settings.
3. Tap Calls.
4. Tap Wi-Fi calling. Note: This option might not be visible if your operator doesn’t support it, but you can still utilize Wi-Fi calling through a voice-over IP service.

Keep in mind:
• Google Voice is currently only available in the US. Google Voice for Google Workspace users is available in select countries. Check with your administrator for access.
• Calls made using Google Voice for Android can be placed through a Google Voice access number. All access number based calls use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan and may incur costs (e.g. when traveling internationally).

While enabling wi-fi calling can be useful, basically, you’re just enabling your android or iOS device to function as a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) device. This is useful when you have internet, but not cell service, but it won’t work when both cell service and the internet are down.
Copper-wire landline service will still work in those cases, but that service is being phased out by phone companies, as they are also moving to VOIP services.
Another option is to employ some sort of two-way radio system to reach those close to you, but there are too many variables involved to get into those options here. Some of the radio options to consider are CB, Ham (amateur), FRS, and GMRS.
