Self Reliance Festival
The Self Reliance Festival this past weekend was great. It was so nice to meet and get to know so many like minded people there. I told my wife when I got back to Dallas that I feel I have found my tribe.
The Bonds were great. I had the privilege of talking a while with Michelle and telling her about my teenage daughter who has taken up welding and wood shop in her high school, and is really loving it. I also was happy to hang out with both of them around the campfire on Saturday night. I also got to attend Billy’s impromptu homestead electric fencing class.
On a funny note, on Sunday I was taking walk to try to identify some plants around the SOE compound and saw someone kneeling behind a tree, I walked a little bit over to see if they needed any help and ended up finding Billy trying to take a break to eat. Once I saw that I backed off so he could have a moment alone. I then went up to check out the top swale, and didn’t think anything of it. Imagine my surprise to find Billy mention the incident on the latest Pimpcast.
Just wanted to let you know that I had a great time there and met and talked with some great people. I hope to see you at the next one.

lol I was just listening to that podcast and wondering if you’d understood what he was doing. I think he feared you thought he was doing something else and thought “freak” lol. Hopefully next time you two can connect. Oh … welcome to the tribe!

I had an amazing time at SRF! I was working the Visitor Center and I got to talk to lots of cool people. I made some new friends and caught up with some old ones too. SRF is now my “family reunion”.
