I’m looking for more suggestions on what to seed behind my pigs in my woods as we move them. Zone 4a. Front part of the woods is mixed maple, aspen, and pine with dappled sun. Back part is larger aspen and white spruce with some open spots but fairly shaded.

We’ve been seeding mainly a type of white clover because it’s supposed to do well in more shady conditions. We’ve tried a random deer plot mix without success.

We’re getting into fall here in MN so I’m looking for something I can seed to overwinter under the leaf layer to regen the ground come spring. The pigs have done their job well now its time for us to do ours.

White clover is a wonderful choice. It will grow most quickly.

I’m in 7a. I’m doing mix of white/red clover and even tossing in a bit of a fall cover crop mixture just to see what happens. At what point are you seeding?

We’ve been seeding after each rotation. We have 6, roughly .25 acre, paddocks at 7 day rotations. Pigs are being processes thw end of the month and I want to do a more robust seeding of something to restore the acreage for the next 2-3 years of rest period.
