Sounds like a good idea. We save only Non-GMO heirloom seed varieties and would be happy to share if you get something set up. Thanks for a great idea.

I am defiantly in ! 6b but no problem 7a or lower zones in early spring/ late fall. I grow organic tomatoes, parthenocarpic cucumbers , long beans and a couple varieties of figs .

It shouldn’t be hard just to keep this thread going with what zone you live in, what you offer and what are you looking for and then you message that person if you want to trade ,want ? Sounds pretty easy to me . If you make a trade or get what you are looking for ,just edit your post .

    Example

    Zone 6B/7A Wishlist :

    1. Cherokee Purple tomato seeds

    2. Beit cucumbers seeds

    3. Fig cuttings ( CH )

    Offer :

    1. Armenian Cucumbers

    2. Fig Cutting ( Stella )

    3. ARP Rosemary Cuttings

etc. etc. and I am sure everybody can afford a stamp and send it as gift to the other person.

    Thoughts ??

So how do we get this started?

I am pretty new to the forums so I don’t know if there is a process or admin needed?

We shouldn’t need an Admin … after all it’s “Freesteading” all about a community of like minded people – helping people … !?

Maybe this a idea, a box to put the seeds in and everyone send a couple seeds they can mis to the person who starts with that seedbox. Make a list who wants to be a part in the seedbox exchange and the first person can take some seeds and puts some seeds in. That person sends the seeds to the second person, takes some seeds out and puts some in. The second person sends the box tho the next person and so on, every person just has to pay the cost to send the box to the next person. At the end of the year the box is at the first person again, and if there is not enough in the box everyone can send some new seeds. Box gets sorted out for next year, and the fun can go its round again each year.

Just a idea, can do it the way you all want to.

I like that Idea ! A Lot ! If you take, say 3 packs of seeds out then replace it with 3 new ones. Included in the box would have to be a printed sheet with names and addresses so you can send it to the next person. Unless somebody has a different idea ?! and a time limit when the box has to be send to the next person say max 5 days ,no holding on a couple of weeks because we all want to start planting soon lol . And people can post here when they get with any questions, thoughts etc.

I can start with the first box and message the ones who want to participate my Address . I just would like to get started soon so everybody will have their first seeds around late Spring (depending how many sign up and how fast the next person sends it out)

    Thoughts – Input ?

I’m game to participate. Pinball Preparedness started a roving seed box and I believe (if memory is correct) that one (maybe two boxes) simply disappeared. Hopefully everyone will honor the spirit of the project.

Oh no , that’s not good . Maybe doing it on individual bases is better then.

The box can still work. We can just have a route organized so we’ll know where it is (location and person).

I was part of the Pinball roving seed box. It never made it to me, unfortunately.

I’d love to get in on this.

I don’t have a lot to offer yet besides a few strawberry/pine berry plants since I just started gardening last year. But I’d love to help anyway I can. I’ve got quail eggs or bunny berries I could contribute. I’d also love to scale up my worm castings if anyone is interested.

That sounds wonderful. I could use more tips for saving seeds duch as isolating squash and pumpkin seeds…..that sort of thing.

Pretty good set up, seed saving is not so hard bit have to be done right, to not let the be cross pollinated. Just one each family, space and barrier, inside or netting is a lot a work for just a hobby.

    Hey Bonnie,

You’re focusing on growing two types of plants and I’m wondering how many ounces/pounds/quantity of seeds are you supposed to produce?

What kind of seeds do you have?

I have plenty of the store bought seed. I’m looking for someone that’s been saving cucumber seeds for generations.

Generations ? Sorry can’t help with that . Mine are only 4-5 years

I have several sources for seeds. Baker creek, migardener, seeds n such and some saved from growing from the bought seeds.

We could also start with some varieties that we didn’t like…nothing wrong with seed, just my taste buds.

I can post what I have and the year they were packed. Thoughts?

I don’t want to waste them and feel someone who get some benefit from them.

Good example: tomato seeds. I have bought a ton to find the right ones. Now I have a LOT extra.

I don’t think anybody “really” started something as it was Ideas and Input. I was on board but haven’t heard what everybody thinks … I can make a poll of either posting what you got and want to trade, go via individually, or as another member stated a Seedbox . I personally like to do individually.
