Who we are

Live on 2 acres in town, central OK. We have goats & chickens, 3 dogs a cat and lots of squirrels (squirrels are volunteer). Trying to garden, lots of chard, basil & brown cucumbers this year. Got a few tomatoes, zucchini and butternut squash before the voles took over. For my real job I am an insurance agent. I have my own agency on the property. And just for fun, I got a LGD puppy from a client. His Anatolian and Great Pyrenes had 9 puppies. My current LGD (same mix) is 7 years old, so the thought was that she could help teach the young one the ropes. I am trying to stop listening to the craziness in the news and convince hubby to do the same. Doing what I can to prep for whatever may happen. Talk to my young adult kids about taking care of themselves. I heard about LFIT this year, from TSP (started listening to TSP in 08, stopped for several years on started back when I was able to listen on my phone as I did my morning chores). Trying to learn as much as I can.

I’m Jake, been a listener of jack spirko’s podcast for 10 years and hence was introduced to your podcast as well. Me and my wife (and 2 little girls) just bought a house in Murfreesboro last year on a little over an acre so we’re really just getting started. Got a few apple trees, chestnuts, and some garden plots in. I downloaded the app after hearing from the podcast it was released. I’m enjoying it as I despise most social media these days.

Late to this post, but here goes!

Tennessee native, back to the James Robertson family. I come from a long line of farmers/teachers/gardeners whose kiddos moved on to “progressive “ lifestyles. The skills may have been all but lost, but the desire to cultivate is still strong in my blood. I live in the city and have a patio to work with, so I’m practicing my skills that I will use on my own acreage one day. Hoping to fine tune a growing system of just a few things and once I get a good handle on those, add/change crops as needed. I’m working with grow bags for the most part right now, but I do have a tiny strip of land that I have tended for about 5 years. It is GOOD dirt! 6” worms at least! Looking forward to learning from you all!

You can master seedling growth and sell the plants for people’s gardens!

    Hi Nicole,

We will be at self reliance this year! It’s funny multiple people who told me about the event talked about how nice you are. I didn’t put together until recently who you are. Jake Dog creek farm

Welcome! It takes a bit to learn the ins and outs but it just takes a little time with interactions.

I’m living vicariously through those with land. Have some plants growing at a friend’s house but dream of a field of hot peppers. Get Zello much anymore?

The pressure to conform must have been intense. I know y’all had major restrictions and political/social pressure. Have all restrictions been lifted?

Congrats on the new baby! I hope the contracting turns into a long-term money source you control so that they cannot control you!

We raise pigs, though I would like to sell my breeding pair. I think though that we may be getting piglets this week, so…

I totally agree with you. I take it your in Tennesse and i hate it that so many people are moving there with a different mind set. NC is getting the same way. People move here thinking it’s better but bring the same problems they left. Maybe they will wake up. I believe alot of the people leaving NY and California is planned intentionally to spread a certain ideology like a cancer.

I would say that most of the new people I meet in rural areas are bringing exactly the kind of mindset we want. I hear that in Nashville, it is not that way – we need to all tell the stories better of why our way of life is part of why this state is still affordable (though less so now) and pleasant to live in.
