Go back to the group page. Top right corner of the screen. Looks like a bomb. Create post.

I had 3 chicken that got a little frost bite during that “attic blast”. Is there anything that I should be doing. The areas have now turned black. I love my chickens. I thought I had them safe and secure from the cold. It just breaks my heart! Any suggestions welcome.

Is your coop dry? Do you do put down a layer (4-6 inches) straw or hay? Is it slightly ventilated? You don’t want it to be to humid. We do not use heaters or lamps.

We have had no problems with frost bite.

The coop wasn’t the problem. I decided to open the coop to see if they wanted to get out for just a little bit and did not realize that the wind chill was 35-50 below. My rooster stayed out the longest and got frost bit more that 2 of the others. It’s just a small place on the the 2, but my largest rooster got his waddles bitten pretty good. I could have used vasoline to protect them, but really didn’t think that in the short tome that they were out, that there would be a problem. I know to use hay and have vents higher then the chickens. Just didn’t realize the wind chill. Wondered if I should treat the black spots. Thanks for replying. 💙💛🙏

Hi, wanting to purchase meat chickens and need guidance if different than laying hens. Then when do you harvest and where (not knowledgeable in my area that would kill and clean to freeze.)

Asheboro NC area. Any suggestions? Thanks!
