So… anyone have experience with water buffalo?
We are new, not yet on our 40 acres, and exploring options. We have chickens now and I did a lot of horse time as a teen. But we have never done bovines or other ruminants.
Per the sites and literature that I have read, water buffalo (not American Bison) are supposed to have a personality like big ol’ dogs. They like attention, are placid and don’t have to wallow. They keep better on marginal pasture than cattle, their milk is richer than cow’s milk and meat is comparable to beef. In other countries they are draft animals. Hmmm. Anyone with experience out there? We plan to go visit the Turkey Creek Company in Texarkana, Arkansas – a water buffalo breeder – early 2023. Thoughts?

I saw a surprising CL listing of 25 yaks for $9000. From what I understand, they can be milked. Weird find of the month.
