Duck bill infection ?

Last night I saw that one of my ducks ( Josephine/black bill) has a swollen underside and I’m kind of concerned that it may be a bacterial infection.

You can see in the pictures that part of her right side around the cheek seems swollen as well. She otherwise looks healthy, walking, talking and I still see her feeding.

If anyone has seen anything like this before and can give me some pointers would greatly appreciate.

I’m afraid it might be a bacterial infection that one of our chicken had some years back that apparently came from wild doves.

We don’t really have the funds for a vet.

Feed her anti-bacterial herbs. Ducks love fresh greens of any kind, so this is easy to do. Garlic is good, too, but I’ve found ducks less receptive to eating garlic. If I mince the garlic and mix it with peas, they ingest some of it, at least.

Omg, yes, I didn’t even think of that… too simple. I have lots of fresh oregano and I guess maybe put some ground glove into their water, if I’m lucky, they drink it.

      Thanks

In humans that area would be a submandibular or submental lymph node. They are “built” like a catcher’s mitt, to grab potentially noxious organisms. White blood cells migrate to the area and kill the bad guys in the lymph node. Brew some echinacea or golden seal tea and put it in their water as a blood purifier and immune booster. It won’t hurt the healthy ducks either. Maybe another bowl of water with ACV (apple cider vinegar) as a good probiotic. Gut health may matter. Keep us in the loop for how your girl is faring please!

Oh my goodness, I just saw your reply. Thank you so much for the info. My girl is doing much better and has healed nicely. I added some of my oregano in one pail of water and some poultry cell in an other pail as a general supplement boost. I’ll definitely keep your suggestions for next time in my notes. Thanks again.
