    Even with reading the food labels you may not get the whole story thanks to the food lobby. For example, GMO labeling. In the US Bioengineered is the term. If a particular food uses a refined ingredient that is made from a GMO source, but, does not contain any detectable protein by a PCR test it is not required to carry the bio engineering labeling. Another issue is that there may be things in the food that do not make it to the label. There are many things that can be added to a food recipe during manufacturing and if it does not have a function in the finished product it does not have to be labeled. It is considered a processing aid. Antifoaming and flow agents can be examples of this. Manufacturers will vary as to how strict they are with labeling or not. My personal POV is that if it is in there it should be labeled.
