I homeschool my 3 grandchildren. Their ages is 5,4 and 3. We do the Abeka video school. My granddaughter age 3 puts her Nana to shame. She can quote scripture and reference better than me. They all are learning to read.

This is quite an undertaking. God bless you for keeping them out of public schools.

Yes it is! I homeschooled their parents in the 90’s. I have a lot more reasons these days to want to protect my grandchildren from. Yes it gets crazy but with God’s help and my husband’s we will make it. It’s about to get even more CRAZY with my granddaughter Serenity due November 11th.

When my children were smaller, I would have them write a paragraph about anything they wanted to. They could go outside and write about a plant, grass, tree, tree bark, ants, whatever they found that interested them. The paragraph would need to be 3-4 sentences long, as they got older the more sentences. I would not critique their writing to harshly. I would point out a few words, tell them there were more misspelling, but for them to work on the ones we pointed out for now. Also, as for the reading, Sonlight has very interesting books that deal with history and geography. They can be purchased second hand from Thrift Books. It takes longer then purchasing them directly from Sonlight, but it saves money! Hope this helps.

My daughter just turned 3 the end of August so she’s still learning but I started by writing in the sand outside. Now that it’s colder, we have a dry erase book we use to practice writing letters.

The reluctant learner is hard… For reading, find what interests the child. It could be anything from comic books, picture books, and consider audio books. Just might not be ready for reading & that’s okay.
There’s a method for both reading & writing that involves spelling. Look into spellingyousee.com (Demme learning – creators of mathusee curriculum). Might be able to accomplish solving two problems at once. All the best!

Hi, we have three still at home ages 12,9 and 5. We use easy peasy homeschool for workbooks but let our explore where they feel led. Lots of hands on and life learning on our homestead.

We have an almost 9-year-old student. We have a laid back eclectic learning style with a lot of Charlotte Mason influence.

I’m Claudine. I am homeschooling my 7th grader, almost 13. This is our first year. Her sister and brother are grown and out of college. They both went to public school. She is so lonely though. Thoughts.

See about connecting to a local Youth Group through Church. An Outreach Project with the group might encourage new connections. Check with your local Homeschool Co-op Coordinator. Usually can find info about it through the library – which is like “the place to be” for homeschoolers. Another cool site is meetup.com . Might meet some fellow homeschoolers & find things that interest your 7th grader. Sports is another great connection. 4-H Club. If your 7th grader is new to homeschooling, might need to de-school (or detox) from it. Lots of great tips online for how to go about that. Wishing you the best!

I read a lot of thematic literature on subjects. But despite this, I have big problems with writing literary works. That’s how I got acquainted with the best literature review writing service, thanks to it my academic performance began to improve.

Retired homeschooler. I’m just here for support & encouragement, which both new & seasoned can never have enough of during the ebb & flow of homeschooling.
