Jack Spirko covered LoRa communications and MeshTastic today. He has a good summary on his audio web page, https://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/lora-mesh, though it’s available in a YT video as well. LoRa and MeshTastic has also been covered more than once on the Hackaday website.
Does anyone have time in using this for/in their community and if so, thoughts on its versatility and limitations? I wonder how far line of sight comms will go in some of the pointier mountainous parts of Tennessee for instance. But it for sure is Decentralized.

I’m gonna have a talk with the resilience groups around here about the feasibility of using it; how much and where would we put the relay/repeater points.

I hadn’t looked at it in this light, but makes sense.

Mainly I had (and still have) dreams of using it for remote sensors.
Eg, “hey dummy, you left the coop open again”. That sort of thing.

It’s so bloody inexpensive, that you can deploy a dozen or two of these for that very thing:
      “I’m the chicken waterer reporting, and I’m: (Full/Half Full/Near Empty/Something’s Not OK)
“I’m the electric fence surrounding the garden, and I’m (Fully charged/Firing at diminished capacity/Something’s Not Ok, come check on me)–Lather, rinse, repeat, for a bunch of homestead tasks that are OOSOOM otherwise ‘out of sight out of mind’. Help direct your energies better on the rounds.

I’m just getting into it. Got a Lilygo T-beam supreme in today, got it up and running, flashed to latest stable firmware, but no contacts yet. Have a case coming as well.

Also have a t-echo en route, so I at least have two nodes to play with if there is no one else around, and maybe make one a “base” and one a mobile. Like I said, just getting started playing with it.
