Your biggest obstacle would be damaging the roots when transplanting. If you used a biodegradable pot that could be transplanted along with the plant (without removing it), you would stand a better chance. In my experience, peat pots don’t actually break down, but CowPots do (made from compressed cow manure). You could also try making your own out of newspapers, but I have never personally done that. It’s an interesting idea, and I may give it a try myself this year.
