Indoor cucumbers

My husband started some cukes indoors not too long ago. He has them in water in a cooler, trying to grow the Kratky hydroponic method. They are doing pretty good and each have cukes growing on them.

However I noticed that they now both have white spots on the leaves. Any idea what might have caused this? He fertilized the initial water, but I think he might be continuing to fertilize, not sure if that is because he is needing to add water or not. Any idea what might be causing the spots on the leaves?

Could the white spots be the beginning of powdery mildew? Do you have good air flow where its growing?

It is between the deck patio door and a recliner and sitting on the floor, so maybe not the best air flow. Maybe if we run the ceiling fan that might help. I can check tomorrow and see if I wipe it with my hand if the white comes off. Thanks for your input!
