Hey MadDog, It was brutally cold here in coastal AL. This Arctic Blast was definitely one for the record books for our area. In Jan/Feb we will have an occasional night or two of freezing temps but we generally warm up during the day to break the cold & allow things to either thaw or warm up enough where you don’t have the consistently frigid temps. We were avg’ing 18-20(F), wind chill temps consistently 5-7(F) for over 30+ hrs. Doesn’t help that I live on a hillside that kinda slopes down into a valley so I felt much colder than Weather app on my PC. Outside water spigots & one pipe froze, even though heavily wrapped with pipe insulation & styrofoam spigot covers (I even stuffed with insulation for added protection).

Can you share a link to the water emitters you used? Were they the kind that released a slow drip to keep water flowing/dripping? I’ve seen some kind of pipes you install on your water line, (gotta dig down to it) with a handle you raise that drops water level in pipe to below freeze line. To use you pump handle to raise water level back up, I think?? Not sure which would be best to use considering we may start having much colder than usual temps with a polar flip or GSM. Advice/suggestions appreciated on this.

I have a ceramic light bulb fixture installed in my brooder box that I put a heat lamp bulb in. No chance of a clamp coming loose to start a fire. Used a HD extension cord wired into ceramic fixture to power it.

I have an uncle, aunt & cousins/families in NW LA in the Mansfield LA area. He is retired from the papermill there.

I know I don’t want to EVER go thru this mess again without being better prepared. Frozen rabbit/chicken waterers is not anything I have ever had to deal with plus having water spigots frozen about caused me to lose my religion! Didn’t lose any animals but used up a lot of hay to ensure they could snuggle/burrow in to stay warm.

Glad to see y’all faired well, otherwise.
