Coastal AL, NE of Mobile, AL. Winds started howling here around 3:30ish am. Thought we were in the middle of a tropical storm. Then the temps started rapidly dropping. When I finally got around to check the temps around 8:30am it was 25(F) with feels like temp of 7(F) & north winds of 22mph!! It is 3:45pm & temps are 25(F) with feels like temp of 12(F) & north winds of 17mph! Never reached our predicted high of 31(F)! To me, being a lifetime southern AL gal, THESE TEMPS ARE FRIGID to me!

All animals survived, packed everything I could in the greenhouse & even put a heater in there to keep all my garden experiments alive. I’ve GOT to get a bigger greenhouse built and this cold weather experience proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt! I was prepared for everything as best I could not knowing just HOW to prepare for something I’ve never experienced. Had a standby gas generator, 2 fully charged solar generators, jugs of water drawn up for me & the animals and my camp percolator dug out to have my coffee to keep me warm. Now I have a big pot of homemade chili on the stove simmering to warm my tummy this evening for supper. Gonna be canning up the bulk of it tomorrow to help keep the house warmer! Just danged, never thought we would see this kind of low temps here but guess it is a test run of what is to come with the GSM and whatever else is thrown our way!
