I found that a pharmacy in a nearby town would fill 6 months or 12 months of prescription medications at a reduced cash price. (Be sure to get a quote and ask how the doctor has to word the prescription.) Their “Extended Day Cash Plan” provides many generic prescriptions for as low as $70 for a 12 month supply. Here is a sample of what is offered:

My mother’s insurance did not cover one of her medications. The pharmacy gave us a cash price. It was more than $70, but much less than having it filled monthly at Wal-Mart.
My brother has also had medications filled through a Canadian pharmacy at a reduced cost.
