I have been at this so long that I sometimes forget those that are just starting out. When I started I noted daily for a week all things we eat and drink. It started with a total of 5 but now down to 2 of us. You have to note food, drinks, condiments and medicine. When you have an idea then it is time to work out the weekly list If you take an Advil daily, that is 365 pills. If you drink sweet tea daily, how many glasses, that will give you an idea of tea bags, sugar, water need,, same with coffee. How many meals weekly are meat based, how many are soups ect. Once you figure out the food then move on to medical, household, everyday items, sewing, shoes and clothing. Pen and paper are your best friend for a long time. We have animals so I have up what I hope is a year’s worth of things for them, and replace as soon as I open something. Water, water, water can never have too much. Seeds and all the things that go with that. If you are on a fixed income, start going to the food bank, it is a big help for those in need. I also do puzzel books, puzzels, reading books, and board games, for life could go back many decades in a blink of an eye. Take it slow, pick the area of need most and start there. If you have food stocked, check out the medical end, the household end or whatever comes up at the store. Remember, buckets to wash your clothes, clothesline to hang them and clothespins, it is the little things that many miss. I wish you well and if you need more in depth help, let me know.
