Etsy

I’ve been wanting to start an etsy store but I’ve been hearing negative things about getting payments, Etsy wanting too much personal and bank info etc. Is this a real issue or is it something I shouldn’t be that concerned with. My plan is to sell craft items and supplies. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

@AiNt-RiTe-Acres I. too, have heard of a few issues with etsy. I am just going to wait until Tag and the crew get something together for this site. I’m sure it will be honest and reliable once it’s up and running. Is that an option for you?

I’m looking forward to a market place on freesteading and plan to make use of it however I can!

I have an account there, but did not get much for sales. I received some. I was going to start listing some of my sewing items, herbs and tea blends, but I’m hesitant. I received an email today stating that if I do not confirm my banking info., that has not changed, my account will be cancelled. I have to make a decision. They do need our banking info., as that is where the extract funds to pay for our fees, but also where they pay us.

The benefit of Etsy, is that it has some great benefits for the sales person as well as the buyer, more so if you provide tracking info. I’ve had no charge backs, but there are some interesting customers out there.

My daughter does quite well on etsy, with her view as, “they do all the business stuff, while I get to work on my stuff”.

The platform that collects is Plaid, which was in a suite due to sharing of info. There is info on the net that can go into more detail.

There is a balance, yet once we get a marketplace up here on Freesteading, we should be working with more and more like-minded people. It doesn’t mean we will have some interesting characters here, but for the most part, those who see freesteading as outlandish, most will probably not be interested.

I hope that helps. Remember, that is just a personal view. I haven’t decided if I will re-submit my banking info or not.

Absolutely!! Many of us have limited resources and while we are all trying to run a business or side hustle, we need it to run effeciently.

You might find the information in this video interesting if you’re considering starting an Etsy store. (I hope I’m linking to the video correctly.)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This video addressed everything I was concerned about. I guess I’ll be finding another option until or including freesteadings market once it’s up and running.

I was about to open an etsy store until I saw Heidi post this. Does anyone know if there are any updates from etsy about this?

I tried to resale my handmade soaps on Etsy with zero sales in a 5 month period. Each listing cost .18 cents so I ended up losing money. Instead I went to Ebay and had better luck. I now resale on Ebay full time now (sales are very slow though as they are on all platforms right now because people are holding onto their money given the current status of the world). What I can say though is both Etsy and Ebay ask for your social sec # (for tax reasons) and your back account info (for payment). This is no different than if you went to an in-person job and was hired (they would ask the exact same).

I understand the need for the routing number and account name. It’s the quick sign up involving passwords that I don’t get. I’m not surprised by slow sales right now with everything that’s going on. Thanks for the input though. Ebay was my 2nd choice. I may try both… I just know something needs to give to boost our income with everything we have going on as well as the economy going to crap.
