    Hi,

The notifications function is way too “chatty” and is basically duplicating the activity feed and over-notifying.

I’ve looked for controls to filter the notifications, but do not see any.

Is there any way to set notifications for only:
    – Replies to my comments
    – Comments on my posts
    – Updates/comments on posts I have commented/engaged on

If that is not possible, how about a quick, “delete all notifications” function in the “hover over” or pop-up window from the notifications bell?

    Thanks!

    JD

Go to your account and click on notifications settings and choose how you want to be notified and or turn off all notifications. I use the website for Freesteading and it works great especially considering that we all ride for free. Enjoy…

That seems to have no effect.

Today I have more notifications that my settings indicate I should not be getting. The notifications are for “posted an update” and “started a discussion”. My member name is not mentioned in any of the notifications, nor are they replies to a post or comment I’ve made.

My notification settings are as follows…

Notification settings where “Web” is the only option selected:
A member mentions you using “@JD-in-GA
      Your password is changed
A member replies to your post or comment
      A member starts following you
      You’re promoted in a group
You receive a new invite to join a group
A member requests to join a group you manage
Your request to join a group is rejected
You receive a new connection request
      Your connection request is accepted

Notification settings where *no* option is selected / all disabled:
New post by a member you’re following
The details of a group you manage are updated
New post in a group you’re subscribed to
New discussion in a group you’re subscribed to
New meeting or webinar is scheduled in one of your groups
New discussion in a forum you’re subscribed to
New reply in a discussion you’re subscribed to

I too have trouble with notifications. I think I have hundreds mostly spam that I can’t delete all in one go. I also have notifications mostly turned off and receive more daily that I should not be getting.

I am reluctant to attempt interacting as I can’t sift through the many useless notifications to find ones I actually want.

Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

I think I’ve found part of the problem — whenever you join a group/community/whatever, by default Freesteading automatically enables the “Subscribe” bell for that group!!! Freesteading automatically opts you in to a notification subscription when you join the group. You have to manually go back through, open each group page, and opt out by toggling the “Bell” icon to off. The bell icon is at the top/right of the group page title.

Another example is I get “Posted An Update” notifications from users I don’t “follow” and have no “connection”. I get “Posted An Update” most frequently from the user, @HorseRangeMtnFarm. I’m sure they are nice folks, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how Freesteading’s notification functionality decides I should get notified every time they “Post An Update”.
